Committee. The Personnel and Facility Qualification Committee of the American Welding Society.
qualification. Demonstrating training, skill, knowledge. and experience required ftr personnel to perform the duties of a specific job or function typically demonstrated by passing a performance test.
qualified. In compliance with specific requirements.
specification. A specification describes the essential technical requirements for material, fabrication, product, system, or service. It indicates the means to determine all requirements have been met and a standard suitable for adoption in procurement documents.
standard. A generic term incorporating codes, specifications, recommended practices, classifications, methods, guides being prepared by a sponsoring committee and approved and adopted in accordance with established procedures.
4. Qualification
A person with the written and demonstrated education.
experience, and knowledge in accordance with Clauses
6, 7. 8. and 9 of this specification, who successfully
passed the required examinations, shall (as a minimum)
be considered qualified as a RWT.
5. Functions
5.1 (;eneral. The RWT shall he capable of understanding those operations associated with resistance welding that are completed in accordance with the appropriate contract documents, codes, and other standards to produce a satisfactory product. The RWT activities begin before production welding, and continue through the production process cycle. The RWT shall be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the activities defined in this standard.
Each employer shall be responsible for defining the specific duties of a RWT in the place of employment. The detailed activities of a RWT include the following:
5.2 Safety. The RWT shall be knowledgeable of safety practices as they apply to the resistance welding and manufacturing processes. The RWT shall be familiar with the requirements of ANSI Z49. 1, Safety in Welding, Cutting, aiid Allied Processes.
5.3 Application Principles. The RWT shall he capable of discussing basic resistance welding principles as they apply to resistance welded parts. This includes recogni- tion and understanding applicable codes or specifica- tions. 5.4 Materials and W elding/Joining Metallurgy. The RWT shall possess a basic knowledge of ferrous and nonferrous materials including: carbon steel, various types of alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel and nickel alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys, copper and cop- per alloys, titanium and titanium alloys. The RWT shall be able to demonstrate a practical knowl- edge of how the different resistance welding processes and pre- and post-welding heat treating processes affect the metallurgy of ferrous and nonferrous materials. 5.5 Resistance Welding, Joining, and Heating Pro- cesses. The RWT shall demonstrate a working knowl- edge of the resistance welding processes, such as spot welding, projection welding, seam welding, upset weld- ing, resistance brazing, resistance soldering, flash weld- ing, and of resistance heating.5.7 Quality Assurance. The RWT shall have a basic knowledge of quality management systems as well as welding procedures and equipment qualifications. The RWT shall be capable of performing visual and mechan- ical inspection of welds, and of understanding other types of weld inspection.AWS C1.5 pdf download.
